Lazar Lissitzky, known as El Lissitzky, was born in Russia in 1890. He was one of the multi-faceted artists of Russian avant-garde (painter, designer, photographer, typographer and architect). He turned to suprematism and created his first series of “Proun”. Art is no longer a personal quest but must have a social purpose. Objects must be useful. He died in Moscow in 1941.

The Pansu’s weaving workshop has been established in 1878 by Jules Pansu.
