"To My Sole Desire" The Lady with the Unicorn tapestry
This tapestry represents one of the six well-known "The Lady of the Unicorn" tapestries. Five of them are devoted to the five senses. The sixth one represents a richly-clad lady standing in front of a tent crowned by a banner on which is inscribed “À MON SEUL DÉSIR” (to my sole desire). The Unicorn tapestries were given to Claude de Viste by Jean de Chabanne as an engagement present. The lion and the unicorn holding the coats of arms are an emblem of strength on one hand, purity on the other. These two animals symbolize the engagement of the bride & groom.
The Pansu’s weaving workshop has been established in 1878 by Jules Pansu. Settled in the city of Halluin, north of France, birthplace of the tapestry for over 600 years, the Pansu’s workshop has become the reference of the tapestry “Made in France”. A team of highly qualified designers and weavers, among whom three "Best craftsmen in France" awarded, restore for you the masterpieces and patterns which have decorated centuries of History of France and Europe. More than 125 years after its creation, the workshop continues to work on true Jacquard looms. They also keep creating their own brand-new models as well as readapting famous paintings, more modern, but always with the same traditional and unequalled know-how.
Each tapestry is delivered doubled and ready to hang up on wall. A certificate of authenticity is affixed on the back. Beyond a quality seal, it indicates the point of weaving, the title and the subject of the tapestry, but, what’s most important, registers every tapestry in a matchless craft heritage.
